Wind Power Tops 40% of Supply in Spain, Briefly

... according to Agence France Presse. It's symbolic of how far Spain has come--the country has been duking it out with the U.S. for several years for the #2 position in wind capacity installed, behind world leader Germany. Detailed statistics here.

Solar energy is free, why are we not using it? Mass producing solar panels could bring down the production cost which is affordable for everyone.

Good question--but, all energy is free. Coal is free, natural gas is free, etc. The cost to the consumer is the cost of extraction and energy production. What's different about wind and solar (and hydro) is that they use no fuel, so there is no mining, drilling, fuel transportation or waste. You're right, we should be using more of them.
